Getting Behind Again

Nice Day

I think days like this are going to be scarce from now on. Of course you can’t see temperature, but it was clear, it was crisp, and it was damn colourful. iPhone cameras just can’t do colour justice. Too bad.

Sept 29

Sept 29

Just feels like a Sept 29 today. Just feels like this. Kinda like everything is uphill, but kinda not.

This weather surprises me today. Last night the wound ached like a SOB all evening. It even threw something new at me. A hand cramp like writers cramp sort of but completely inexplicable. Just weird. I was half expecting snow this morning it was that weird. I even took a painkiller for it. I hope it’s just an anomaly though, and that winter isn’t fast approaching.

Sept 28

Edgemont Village

Had to get a picture of this one. My guts tell me there just aren’t enough days like this left to be had this year. Enjoy ‘em while you can. That’s what I say.

Now it’s time to go haul them kids home.

Sept 19 and 20

Back in my hiding spot again. The picture is reused. Sorry. Once I’m driving on the route getting pictures is near impossible. Of course that shouldn’t have applied to the many times I’ve driven these routes with my car to make sure I know where I’m going. Oh well, I’ve been focused and never thought about pictures. Maybe later.

Anyway, very tired these days. Early mornings (have to stop that since I realized this morning there’s really no need for it and I can easily grab another hour of sleep if I exercise some discipline around getting out the door in a timely manner) and long days driving buses, then cars, then buses again. Plus when I get home at 5:00 or 6:00 I really don’t want to go to bed at 8:00 or 9:00 else it feels like my whole life is nothing but work.

Anyway, home at 5:00 or 6:00 and I’m just absolutely smashed I’m that tired. Plus if I hit accident traffic on a bridge or construction it just gets horrifying. I’m sure I’m not the only one thats noticed how if there is only going to be one stinkin accident in this city it is for damn sure going to be on a bridge. What’s up with that?

Plus while I’m whining, if I actually go home between the AM and PM runs it just burns double the gas and creates double the cost. The payoff in terms of time spent at home during the day isn’t really “juice worth the squeeze” as the saying goes. 2 good hours and then I’m watching the clock to make sure I’m not late getting back to work. Plus the added stress from potential lateness (see bridge accidents and construction somewhere in here) makes it somewhat less than appealing.

Coffee shops are nice, but 5 and a half hours a day – Mon to Fri – in them for the next two weeks just might cure me of them. Plus coffee shop coffee and coffee shop food is generally expensive. I feel like I’m just doing these two weeks out of the goodness of my heart and to build some good faith with the company. Hope it pays off. Plus the rumour is that my usual staple of charter runs is pretty slow these days. Scary really. September should be busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Don’t take this to mean I’m unhappy with my employers or the company I work for because nothing could be further from the truth. It’s a great company and I feel like I’m more than an interface card that gets slammed into slot B and forgotten about. Truth is I feel their pain too. I get that I’m doing what I’m doing because they’re short of people that will do what I’m doing. And if charter is slow it isn’t because my bosses are doing anything wrong. It’s just that customers aren’t dialling their number enough to keep everyone busy these days. Translation – sales are down. Company doesn’t make money which means drivers don’t make money. Damn economy. Oh well. I’m sure I know absolutely squat about the finer points of finance in the people transportation world. I just hope it gets busier that’s all.

Damn I’m tired. Whine over.

September 16, 2011

Nice day for a drive. Started a bit wet but as I left the Lower Mainland and hit Hwy 1 north of Hope the weather cleared and it got warm and sunny.
Hung a left at Boston Bar and drove  through North Bend on the way to a river rafting place a few kilometres up in the bush.
Took a few pics of this spot because it was rather impressive, then on to grab a bus load of campers to take back to Surrey.
Sometimes this job is so damn great it defies description.

Sept 14

naghatlatch

Nahatlatch

2 things. The 14th was a good day. I started by hauling some campers from a West Vancouver school to Horseshoe Bay so they could go camping. Not a bad start. Later in the day I hit the highway with some students from Surrey to take them camping and rafting in Boston Bar. A swell day to be sure.

Second thing. This isn’t my picture. I have no idea who it belongs to but I plan to replace it as soon as I actually get a picture of my own. I was enjoying driving so much yesterday that I didn’t want to stop for pictures.

Today, I return to relief work on a school run. Not bad at all.

Kicking Horse Pass

Kicking Horse Pass

Normally I have a heights thing and this bridge does increase the blood pressure and respiration rate a bit when I go over it. Believe me, it is a loooonnnnng way down. But it shaves off so much of what used to make driving in this area hazardous. Miles and miles of winding steep hills stuck behind slow moving transport trucks plus impatient drivers equaled high accident rates. Most of which was eliminated with this bridge. Now getting through this area is relatively painless.

Lac La Jeune

Lac La Jeune

Oh how things change. I had memories of Lac La Jeune of being this little jewel nestled in a sea of green. Thick with pines and lush vegetation. I’m not sure if the area is recovering from a fire or if pine beetle has killed off the growth or a combination or what, but the area isn’t nearly as lush as it once was.

Lac La Jeune

Lac La Jeune

Still damn pretty though.

Shuswap Lake

Shuswap Lake

Travelling west we arrive at Shuswap Lake. I took a few other pics of this lake, but none are really all that spectacular. The problem? You can’t see the view for the trees. There are more than a few viewpoints along the Trans Canada in front of which trees have grown high enough to obscure the view. For Pete’s sake, someone get busy with a chainsaw.
